“Hola, my name is Jorge.”
Jorge, 10, is sponsored by Laura from Australia. Jorge lives in an area of Peru called K’ana, where child sponsorship has been running for 10 years.
See how sponsoring a child helps to meet long-term needs in Jorge’s community, so all children and families can thrive.

Planning
World Vision partners with local groups to assess strengths and needs and form an action plan
"Some of the water in our community is dirty and makes us sick."
Jorge, 10
In K’ana, most people are farmers. But sometimes after harvest they don’t have enough food to eat or sell, and children become malnourished.
Few homes have clean drinking water and sanitation, so children suffer from illnesses like diarrhoea. Many children miss out on education because schools lack basic facilities and supplies.
Action plan
- improved agricultural skills and resources
- access to clean drinking water and sanitation
- school supplies and facilities
Year 1-4Building skills
Project work begins and local people gain skills to lead their own development
"World Vision helps us with pastures so we can feed the guinea pigs and animals."
Jorge, 10
Agricultural training and support
Farmers like Jorge’s parents learn new agricultural techniques. By growing a greater variety of vegetables, they can feed their families and earn income all year round.
11 early learning centres
Parents and teachers learn how to support children’s development. Resources like books, musical instruments and games enhance learning.
Year 5-9Building belief
Unity and sense of purpose grow as more local people start leading project activities
"From the Guiding Mothers we have learned about the most nutritious food."
Jorge, 10
20 trained “Guiding Mothers”
Local health workers learn good hygiene practices and how to prepare nutritious meals. They visit neighbours’ homes to share their knowledge.
3 community health centres
The centres provide child health monitoring and raise awareness of children’s health and wellbeing.
40 trained local teachers
Year 10-13Building hope
Progress strengthens and World Vision and the community work to ensure long-term impact
"Maybe one day I’ll be a maths teacher!"
Jorge, 10
When Jorge’s community reaches this stage, World Vision and local groups will assess projects and make sure benefits continue in the long term.
With better access to sanitation, nutrition and education, current and future generations will be able to make the most of their opportunities.
Jorge is now in Grade 5. He really likes school, his grades are high, and his future is bright.
Year 14-15Success
The community achieves project goals and continues moving forward
"Because my whole community is supported, kids like me have more opportunities!"
Jorge, 10
Once project goals are achieved, families like Jorge’s will be healthier and better able to meet their own needs. His community will be ready to continue building on the progress made with the help of Jorge’s sponsor Laura.
You can give the same chance to another child and community in need.
